In addition to King Carl Gustaf’s 50th anniversary on the throne, Prince Daniel is celebrating his 50th birthday – with new portrait photos.

On the day Carl XVI. When Gustaf of Sweden (77) ascended the throne, Prince Daniel (49) was born: Sweden has two reasons to celebrate next Friday (September 15th). For the 50th birthday of Crown Princess Victoria’s (46) husband, the palace has now published three new portrait pictures.

At Crown Princess Victoria’s side for over 20 years

Prince Daniel can be seen in three different outfits and poses in both an elegant suit and a casual leisure look. The former fitness trainer married Crown Princess Victoria in June 2010. The two were more or less officially a couple for eight long years, until King Carl XVI. Gustaf finally agreed to the engagement in 2009. Their daughter, Princess Estelle (11), was born in February 2012. Prince Oscar (7) finally followed on March 2, 2016.

On the occasion of his 50th birthday, Prince Daniel also answered questions from Swedish journalist Carina Bergfeldt for the TV program “Prins Daniel 50 år” (German: “50 Years of Prince Daniel”) and, among other things, commented on the separation rumors about him and him Crown Princess Victoria, who existed some time ago. “That was a nasty, false rumor that we learned had serious consequences,” he complained.

“Many friends from all over Sweden and also from abroad got in touch and the whole thing reached a level that we couldn’t accept,” Daniel continued. At the beginning of 2022 there was a rumor that the crown prince couple wanted to divorce. The Swedish royal family was forced to react publicly and deny the rumor. Apparently with success: “I don’t think any sensible person believes in this rumor anymore.”

The Swedish royal family presents itself as a unit

Two special family portraits that were published a few days ago to mark the 50th anniversary of the throne show how closely connected the Swedish royal family is to one another. The entire family can be seen in the first picture. The king and his wife, Queen Silvia (79), are surrounded by their children and grandchildren. The grandchildren Prince Gabriel (6) and Prince Alexander (7) sit to the left of the monarch, the granddaughters Princess Leonore (9) and Princess Adrienne (5) are seated next to the king. Prince Oscar and Prince Nicolas (8) pose standing.

Behind them is the older generation in the second row. On the far left, Princess Estelle beams next to her aunt, Princess Sofia (38), and her uncle, Carl Philip (44), who is holding his son Prince Julian (2) in his arms. This is followed by Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel. Princess Madeleine (41) and her husband Chris O’Neill (49) complete the series. The couple lives in the USA with their three children.

The second picture shows the king with his direct heirs to the throne, his eldest daughter Victoria and her daughter Estelle. While the eleven-year-old beams once again into the camera, her grandfather looks a little more serious. Even Mama Victoria only starts with a subtle smile.

King Carl XVI Gustaf ascended in 1973 after the death of his grandfather Gustav VI. Adolf (1882-1973) the throne. The father of Carl XVI. Gustaf, Gustav Adolf Hereditary Prince of Sweden (1906-1947), died in a plane crash in Denmark in 1947, when the current king was nine months old.

The big anniversary weekend

The big anniversary weekend will take place on September 15th and 16th. The anniversary day itself on Friday opens with a thanksgiving service and ends with a large anniversary dinner in the palace. Numerous royal guests from other royal families are expected to attend the celebrations. On Saturday there will be a carriage ride through Stockholm and then an open-air concert at the foot of the palace.
