Prince Daniel: Worry! Hof had to cancel appointments at short notice

First there was a hail of short-term appointment cancellations from Princess Sofia and King Carl Gustaf. Now it has also hit Princess Victoria’s husband Prince Daniel.

The air is getting thin in the Swedish royal family! After King Carl Gustaf, 76, continues to be ill, Prince Daniel, 49, husband of Crown Princess Victoria, 45, is also absent. The court confirmed this late on Tuesday evening, January 31, 2023, to the magazine “Svensk Damtidning”.

Prince Daniel has a cold

Suddenly, Prince Daniel’s name has disappeared from two appointments scheduled for January 31. Together with Crown Princess Victoria, he should first have met Australia’s ambassador to Sweden, Bernard Philip, in his Stockholm residence. The couple has planned a trip to Australia and New Zealand for February 13-18, 2023, which this meeting may be related to.

Then he should attend a diplomatic reception in the castle, to which only Victoria and Queen Silvia, 79, came at short notice. “The prince has a cold,” explains court information manager Margareta Thorgren in a message to “Svensk Damtidning”.

Cold wave hits Sweden Royals

The Swedish royals are affected by a wave of colds: just two weeks ago, Prince Carl Philips, 43, and his wife Princess Sofia, 38, had to cancel a big opera ball. “Unfortunately, Princess Sofia is ill and cannot attend the 250th anniversary of the Opera House tonight,” the palace said, according to Svensk Damtidning. Fortunately, the mother of three seemed fit again for the traditional Swedish dinner on January 20th, Sverigemiddag.

Shortly thereafter, new appointment changes in the official calendar drew attention: Carl Gustaf also canceled appointments due to a “slight cold”, as stated in an email from the press department to “Dana Press”. He was also unable to attend the diplomatic reception in the castle that Daniel was absent from. He was still on sick leave and “not yet fully recovered,” said the court.

Both King Carl Gustaf and Prince Daniel are still scheduled for their dates on February 1 and 2 respectively. Accordingly, the monarch should present medals alongside his wife Silvia. A day later, Victoria and her husband are to take part in their foundation’s seminar “Belief in the future and trust among young people”.
