Prince George: his disconcerting response when strangers asked him his name
Now 8 years old, Prince George already looks like a big boy. But when he was five years old, his young age – unless it was his fertile imagination – made him particularly unpredictable.
Over the years, Prince George – who is still only a child – has calmed down a lot during his public outings. Straight posture, serious expression… the young prince displays himself with restraint. The heir has still had the opportunity to show his mischievous side in recent years, notably during an encounter with a walker when he was 5 years old. Prince George was with his younger sister, Charlotte, at his maternal grandmother’s estate in Buckleberry, Berkshire. While playing in a stream not far from Carole Middleton’s house, the little boy came across a passerby who was walking her dog. A meeting that the woman in question reported in the pages of the Sun, shortly after. “A policeman asked me not to take pictures of the children, which I did, but George started petting my dog“, she recalls. “For goodness sake, I struck up a conversation and asked George what his name was, even though I already knew it.“It was there that, to his great surprise, the young prince decided to give a completely different name to the one chosen at birth.”To my amazement he replied ‘My name is Archie’ with a big smile. I don’t know why he chose Archie, but children often play with their name and I thought it was cute“, continues the walker. As everyone knows, Prince George does have a cousin who responds by this name, but the latter was born several months after this meeting, in May 2019. The story does not say if Prince George has a gift of clairvoyance or if he simply overheard a conversation between his uncle and his aunt, but the coincidence is surprising.
Prince George: this nickname given to him by his school friends
If the young heir has given himself the nickname of Archie, he does have a nickname given by his comrades at Thomas’s Battersea School. They simply call it “PG” for Prince George. Some would even go as far as “PG Tips”, the name of a famous British tea brand.
