Prince Haakon: The heir to the throne from Norway has to show strength

These are extremely stressful weeks for the royal family. At Christmas she received the tragic news about Ari Behn, the ex-husband of Princess Märtha Louise, 48: The writer and painter committed suicide at the age of 47. The funeral service, which the three daughters also attended, was deeply moving. Shortly afterwards, King Harald, 83, was hospitalized for dizziness and exhaustion. Norway is very worried.

Prince Haakon steps in

So the longing for support grows, for a bear-strong shoulder, as is said of the Vikings in Scandinavia. Crown Prince Haakon, 46, whom many consider to be a fair spirit, promptly took on this difficult task. He holds the royal family together and exudes confidence with regard to the mood of the people. "We have just had a difficult time," explains the heir to the throne. "But we try to be there for each other as best we can."

He lovingly consoled his sister and nieces. He represented his sick father calmly. Haakon demonstrated great sovereignty, as the people hope for from a head of state. He proves that he has long since grown into his role as a king: to be King of Norway.

Great concern for Mette-Marit

His biggest concern continues to be his wife Mette-Marit, 46. She suffers from chronic pulmonary fibrosis. This incurable disease causes the lung tissue to harden and breathing becomes more and more difficult. Last year the Crown Princess was seen coughing frequently. She takes medication regularly and has to take care of herself over longer periods.

Mette has largely stayed away from the public since the funeral service for Ari Behn. There is speculation in Norway as to whether she is worse again. Haakon meanwhile tirelessly completes all appointments and trips even without his wife. He flew to Israel in January and Mozambique in February.

At the beginning of this week, King Harald, who is now feeling better, went on a state visit to Jordan with Queen Sonja, 82. For son Haakon this means that he has to stay in Norway again. He has practice now.
