Prince Harry: 5 reasons why Prince Charles should be mad at him

Prince Harry spoke openly about the battle for his mental health in the podcast “Armchair Extreme” by and with Hollywood actor Dax Shepard – and put Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in a negative light.

“I don’t think we’re fingering [auf jemanden] show or accuse anyone, “replies Prince Harry, 36, when asked whether he is raising his son Archie, 2, differently than he was raised. But then he makes it clear: He definitely wants to do it differently than his Father Prince Charles, 72, and his grandmother Queen Elizabeth, 95. He doesn’t want to pass on “genetic pain” and “genetic suffering” to the next generation, he wants to “break the cycle”, he doesn’t want Archie and his sister to be the same happens to him, which is one of the reasons why he moved from England to California, the Royal explains.

Harry goes on to describe how, as he got older, he noticed the similarities between his life and that of his father. “And then suddenly I started [die Teile] put together and say, ‘Ok, this is where he went to school, that happened, I know that about his life. I also know that this has to do with his parents, which means that he treated me the way he was treated. “Harry doesn’t go into detail – but he doesn’t have to, to give the impression of unnecessary and even To have divulged hurtful internals.

Opinion: 5 reasons Prince Harry’s statements go too far

Prince Harry has every right in the world to talk about his feelings and experiences, and every right in the world to determine the way he tells it himself. Like anyone else who shares their mental health problems, they deserve respect and recognition. Nevertheless, a question arises: Why does Harry – knowing the explosiveness of his words and the expected media echo – reveal such sensitive family matters in front of an audience of millions?

1. Inappropriate timing

As expected, Prince Harry is currently THE topic in the British (and international) media. After the fuss about the Oprah Winfrey interview and after the death of Prince Philip, the Windsor family seemed to have just returned to some calm. In the course of the memorial service for the Duke of Edinburgh, the first “baby steps” towards a reconciliation took place between Harry, his father and his brother, it is said. TV footage showing Harry, Prince William, 38, and Duchess Catherine, 39, having a friendly conversation after the service seem to confirm the assumptions. Harry is said to have even written an emotional letter to his father before the trip to London. And now the podcast.

In such a tense situation, why can’t Prince Harry avoid talking about sensitive family matters? Matters that, possibly, have already been discussed behind closed doors? How does Prince Charles feel about his son’s critical words? Exposed, disappointed, sad? At least outwardly, he doesn’t show anything when he completes an official appointment the day after the podcast and laughs happily into the cameras. The message is clear: the royals in England want to focus on their duties, not on the expansion of their private lives.

2. Lack of empathy and lack of respect for the other royals

Prince Harry suffered and continues to suffer because of his royal status. But so do others in the royal family. William, who also lost his mother on August 31, 1997, whose girlfriend Kate Middleton was persecuted by paparazzi in the mid-2000s and who is said to feel “abandoned” by Harry after the Megxit. Prince Charles, who felt pressured to marry a woman he did not love, and whose broken marriage still fills the gossip columns to this day. Queen Elizabeth, who is said to prefer to lead a life in the country than that of a queen. It would do Prince Harry good to acknowledge that he’s not the only one stumbling over his royal origins. And it would do him good to respect and acknowledge that his family members have come to terms with their duties.

3. Damage to the monarchy

With the honest description of his feelings, Prince Harry creates on the one hand an understanding that life as a royal has its downsides and what effects these had on himself. But in doing so he seems to forget (or accept it) that this is not just about himself, but also about a time-honored institution and his own families. A family whose members are among the most famous people in the world, who have put their service to society and who are not allowed to express themselves freely in public. Above all Queen Elizabeth, the longest reigning monarch in history. A woman who, at 95, still works every day. Harry not only robs the monarchy of its magic, but damages it permanently. His message? Be a prince or princess, no thanks!

4. Remembering old wounds

With his statement about “pain and suffering”, Prince Harry risks tearing open old wounds on Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth. How much Charles suffered as a child from the absence of his parents and the strict upbringing, especially by Prince Philip, has been well known for decades and is the subject of many biographies and books. There were problems as an adult too; Charles often encountered incomprehension with his passion for the environment and climate and political expression. Prince Philip is said to have been of the opinion that his son did not have the right qualities for a king.

And above all, Harry forgets one thing: Prince Charles was and may not always be a good father, but he too is to a large extent the sum of his upbringing. In addition, he was raised in an age in which aristocratic parents and children often did not have the close relationship we know today. Where is Harry’s understanding of that?

5. Prince Harry benefits from his status

Prince Harry recorded the podcast with Dax Shepard not only to express his point of view and to encourage other people with mental health problems. He has also spoken to promote his new documentary series “The Me You Can’t See”. Coming to AppleTV + May 21, 2021, it is a collaboration with Oprah Winfrey, 67, and revolves around mental health. In 2020, Prince Harry also concluded lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify. The fact is: this would not have been possible without his royal status. The world only listens to him for one reason and offers him all of his options for only one reason: Because he is a descendant of Queen Elizabeth. Here, too, it would be welcomed if Prince Harry would stand by what he owes to his origins.
