Prince Harry bids farewell to his grandfather with loving lines. Hidden in it: a “secret” final greeting that not everyone immediately understands.
In his announcement, which Prince Harry, 36, published on the website of his “Archewell” foundation on April 12, he praised Prince Philip as “a man of service, honor and great humor”. His grandfather was a “master at the grill, a legendary joker and cheeky to the end,” Harry continued, making it clear that the 99-year-old will be “sorely missed” but will always be remembered. Prince Harry is reminiscent of Prince Philips’ great passion
Translated from Latin, the words mean “On water, on land” – the official motto of the Royal Marines. It is a very loving, touching farewell greeting, because: Prince Philip has felt closely connected to the military from a young age. When he had to end his marine career in July 1951 in favor of his royal duties, he could look back on considerable success. Prince Philip graduated from the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth in 1940 as the best of his course and even received two awards for his excellent performance. After brave fighting in the Battle of Crete and the conflict at Cape Matapan, he was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1942 – at the age of only 21. The then Philip Mountbatten was thus one of the youngest First Lieutenant in the history of the Royal Navy.
Even after his active service, Prince Philip remained closely associated with the British Army through patronage and honorary degrees. He also regularly visited regiments in Great Britain and abroad to demonstrate his support for soldiers and their families.
Prince Harry also loves the military
In 2017, Queen Elizabeth, 94, appointed Prince Harry Captain General of the Royal Marines – a title that Prince Philip had previously held for 64 years and which Harry was stripped of in February 2021 in the course of the Megxit. A decision that should hurt him a lot.
