Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan: After two dates, it was about Prince Harry

The book "Finding Freedom" describes the path from Harry and Meghan to their retirement as royals – with details on the beginning of their love.

In the new book "Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family" the life of Prince Harry (35) and Duchess Meghan (38) is examined in more detail. At the weekend, the first excerpts from it were published in the English newspaper "The Times". They show how broken the relationship between Harry and Meghan, who have withdrawn as high-ranking representatives of the British royals, and the British royal court is supposed to be. It also shows how the couple had to defend their love.

The beginnings of their love

The first date is said to have taken place in Dean Street Townhouse in Soho. After three hours, Harry and Meghan are said to have decided to arrange another dinner for the next day. After the second meeting, it should have happened to the British Royal. "Harry knew from that point on that they would be together," a friend of the prince is quoted in the book. Prince Harry is said to have set up a secret Instagram account after their meetings ("SpikeyMau5"), which Duchess Meghan is said to have subscribed to. While Meghan allowed paparazzi photos in her acting career or occasionally passed on information to the press, she is said to have done everything possible to initially protect the privacy of their relationship.

The couple wanted to enjoy their love to the fullest – while defending their love for others and growing the gap to Harry's family members. Prince William, 38, is said to have had concerns that the couple is advancing their relationship too quickly. "Take as much time as you need to get to know the woman," he is said to have advised his brother. According to friends, Harry was said to have bothered and found his brother's words "snobbish and condescending." The two are said to have hardly spoken to each other. With a friend who had made negative comments about Meghan's Hollywood background, Harry broke off the contact completely, the book says.

No war, but "uncomfortable moments"

After moving out of Kensington Palace in November 2018, Prince William's wife Duchess Kate (38) was also not interested in smoothing the waves between the brothers. "Although it wasn't necessarily her responsibility, Kate did little to close the gap," wrote authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand. Although there have been some "uncomfortable moments" between the two, there is said to be no war between Kate and Meghan, as many newspapers claimed, the authors explain. The two should only have a few things in common that a closer relationship could build on.

Harry and Meghan have not made an official contribution to the book, which will be published on August 11th. The reports that Scobie and Durand wrote down are only based on statements from friends and acquaintances of the couple.
