The "Megxit" is finally sealed and irreversible. Now there is a first statement from the spokesman for Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry

Until recently, many fans of the British royal family had hoped that the "Megxit" could only be a temporary event. But after the statement by Buckingham Palace on Friday noon, it is finally clear: Prince Harry (36) and Duchess Meghan (39) will forever resign from their royal duties – with all the consequences. Now a spokesman for the two confirmed this in a short message, as reported by the British broadcaster BBC, among others.

Despite the royal retreat, Harry and Meghan would want to stick to their duties and services to Great Britain and the rest of the world, it is said. They would have done this last year too. Support for numerous charities would also continue regardless of their official role. "We can all lead a life of service. Service is universal," the message reads.

Megxit situation reassessed after twelve months

Previously, the royal family announced that the two Queen Elizabeth II (94) had confirmed that they would "no longer return as active members of the royal family". It was agreed that the "Megxit" made it impossible to continue to carry the "responsibilities and duties that come with a life in the service of the public". Thus, Prince Harry also loses his military dignity, for which he reportedly fought to the end.

"While everyone is saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain dearly beloved members of the family," said the statement. After the joint decision to leave the royal family as active members and move to the USA with son Archie last year, it was decided to reassess the situation after twelve months. This has now officially happened immediately after the announcement that the couple is expecting a second child.
