Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan: is there more to the Netflix deal than just money?

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan caused a sensation with a Netflix mega-deal. She is said to have not only promised the money.

Is there more than just a financial aspect behind the deal between Duchess Meghan (39) and Prince Harry (36) with the streaming service Netflix? Allegedly, the couple also want to improve their reputation with the engagement. This is at least explained by an anonymous source in the new edition of the US magazine "Us Weekly". The prospect was too "tempting" to turn down the offer.

Sharply decreased in reputation

It was only in July that the British "Sun" reported on a survey according to which Harry's reputation had fallen sharply in recent years. The number of British people who believe that Prince Harry is a win for Great Britain is said to have more than halved from 75 to 35 percent. 38 percent of those surveyed see him as a burden, while even 51 percent see his wife Meghan as a "burden".

The young royals are supposed to produce exclusive documentaries, films and content for Netflix's children's program, among other things. Above all, they want to concentrate on creating informative formats that should also give hope, said a statement by Harry and Meghan after the deal became known at the beginning of the month. According to anonymous sources of the industry magazine "Deadline", the two will receive up to 150 million US dollars.

The attempt could also backfire – at least in terms of popularity. As the "Daily Mirror" reported, worries at the Royal Court about how the Netflix deal will arrive at British taxpayers. Reconciliation is likely to have already ensured for some that a few days later it became known that Harry and Meghan have now paid their debts. Before moving to the US, they used the equivalent of around 2.7 million euros in taxpayers' money to renovate their home in England, Frogmore Cottage. The amount is said to have been repaid in full.
