Three quarters of Brits are of the opinion that Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (42) should not receive any money from the public purse. The majority would also like it if the second-born son of King Charles III. (74) would be removed from the line of succession. This is one of the results of a new one Survey for the British daily newspaper “Mail Online”.

No tax money for security measures

Only 15 percent of respondents believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be entitled to taxpayer-funded security measures and other costs. A majority of 74 percent also believe that the couple should pay for everything themselves.

Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior royals in 2020 and stressed in advance that they wanted to work towards “financial independence”.

Exclusion from the line of succession

The poll also shows that respondents do not approve of the Sussexes’ claim to the throne. The vast majority believe that they should be completely removed from the line of succession.

Prince Harry is currently fifth in line to the throne after his brother Prince William (41) and their children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5). Meghan is not in line to the throne – much like Kate, the Princess of Wales – but her two children with Harry, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, 2, are sixth and seventh respectively.

The newspaper attributes the low reputation among the British public to Harry and Meghan’s attacks on the royal family and the institution in interviews, their joint Netflix series and Prince Harry’s autobiography.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry is being celebrated in Germany for his Invictus Games. The American by choice will be there until the end of the sporting event on September 16th in Düsseldorf.
