Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan embarked on a trip to Australia in 2018. During that time, the Duke of Sussex felt connected to his late mother Princess Diana – and planned the further course of his royal career based on that.

Prince Harry, 38, has mentioned several times in the past that Princess Diana, † 36, accompanied him in spirit at every turn. In an interview with the “Today” show in April this year, he revealed that he thinks of his late mother every day. He also hung photos of her in the house and son Archie, 3, explained that this was his grandmother. “I feel her presence in almost everything I do now – especially in the last two years,” he said. Even when he went on a 16-day tour to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand with Duchess Meghan, 41, in 2018, according to a royal expert, he felt “Diana’s magic”.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s trip to Australia was a success

Princess Diana set new standards after the birth of Prince William when, in 1983, she took her nine-month-old son on an official visit to Australia and New Zealand, rather than leaving him behind in Britain, as was customary at the time. Together with King Charles, 73, then Prince Charles, and little William, the “Queen of Hearts” exuded a lot of charm and esprit – and was rewarded with cheering crowds.

Around 35 years later, Diana’s second son and his wife also headed down under. They too were able to convince the Royal fans present. During their visits to several attractions, including Bondi Beach, the Sydney Opera House and attending the Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan, who was pregnant with Archie at the time, were laid-back and down-to-earth.

The Sussexes rested on “Diana’s magic.”

The fact that the Sussexes were able to record the trip to Australia as a success was attributed to Princess Diana. After all, they were received as enthusiastically as Diana once was on the fifth continent, says Tom Bower in his book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War with the Windsors”: “The Sussexes were convinced that their Australian success blessed them with Diana’s magic Has.” The couple then rested on this assumption, convinced that that magic would also accompany them on their further path.

But even Diana did not become the “Queen of Hearts” overnight. “Meghan could not understand that Diana had won the public’s affection after years of work. […] Neither she nor Harry could comprehend that it takes time to emulate Diana, to weave a story and create a brand that has influence. The Sussexes have been building their brand since stepping down as senior royals in 2020 far away from the British royal family – Harry also carries the memory of his mother in his heart.
