Prince Harry himself once served as a soldier in Afghanistan. Now he turns to the veterans of the war, for whom he campaigns.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban have effectively taken power after the US and NATO troops withdrew. Dramatic scenes are not only played out during the evacuation in the capital, Kabul.

Now Prince Harry (36) has spoken out on the situation in Afghanistan. The Duke of Sussex contacted the Invictus Games community via Twitter. Harry had founded this sporting event for war-disabled soldiers in 2014, mainly from the Afghanistan war that has been going on since 2001.

The Invictus Games Foundation posted on Twitter a statement on behalf of Prince Harry and his colleagues at the Invictus Games, Baron Allen of Kensington (64) and Dominic Reid.

In it, the top management of the sporting event calls on its members – and the military in general – to reach out and support one another. After all, many of the participants had ties to Afghanistan or competed against the Afghan team at the Games.

Prince Harry: Own past in Afghanistan

Prince Harry himself was stationed twice in Afghanistan as a member of the British Army. His first mission in Afghanistan was ended after a short time in 2008 because his whereabouts had become known. For several months, Harry was then in 2012/2013 as a co-pilot of an “Apache” combat helicopter in the southern Afghan province of Helmand.

In 2014 he described his experiences in a guest article for the “Sunday Times”. So he had experienced terrible things. With some memories he is “still running coldly down his back”.
