Prince Harry: He became aware of racism through his wife

Prince Harry has revealed that he first became aware of racism and discrimination through his wife.

In a virtual Zoom interview with the "Evening Standard", Prince Harry (36) revealed that his marriage to Duchess Meghan (39), who has an African American mother, made him aware of the ongoing problems with racism. "I didn't understand the problems we have in Britain and the world. I thought I knew, but it wasn't like that." Harry also mentioned a concrete example from everyday life: "If you want to buy a doll with your child, do you even think about the fact that there is no doll of another ethnic group?"

He also wondered how far his homeland Great Britain was. London is celebrated as one of the most diverse cities in the world. But "when you actually go out on the street and talk to people, it doesn't feel as diverse as it actually is." It is not about pointing the finger and looking for someone to blame. "It's about learning. We should seize the current moment, capture it and celebrate. Because nobody before us has solved the problem." The couple wanted to use their voice to make their contribution.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan gave the interview on the occasion of Black History Month, which is celebrated in Great Britain in October. For the conversation with the journalists of the British newspaper, the couple switched on from their home in Santa Barbara, California. They are doing fine and happy to see their son Archie grow up, the Duchess revealed. "He keeps us busy, he's just everywhere. We are very lucky with our little one."
