Prince Harry tells more openly than ever about the damaged relationship with his family. He felt like a prisoner at the royal court.

Prince Harry (36) did not mince his words in the CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey (67) and also classified his own role at the British royal court: "I was a prisoner until I met Meghan." The relationship with his father, Prince Charles (72), is broken. And without Meghan, he would never have dared to break away from the royal family. "You know," Harry said to Oprah, "I was trapped, but I didn't know I was trapped."

The rest of his family would also be stuck in this system of monarchy: "My father and my brother, they are trapped as well. They cannot leave and I have great compassion for them." His father Charles would have "literally cut him off financially" after the Megxit. He himself could only afford all of this because he inherited money from his mother Diana. His father even stopped taking calls from him and stopped talking to him.

Has the court abandoned Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan?

"There's a lot to deal with. I really feel let down," Harry reported. The real reason for the Megxit was simply a "lack of support and understanding" from his family for his new family. But he never offended his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II (94), with his decision and did not feel that way. "No, I have too much respect for her for that."

During his time in Canada he had three conversations with the Queen and two with his father before he stopped talking to him, Harry said. He regrets this fact very much: "It's really sad that it has come to this, but I have to do something for my own mental health, that of my wife and also for Archie," Harry explained. He just sees in front of his eyes where it could all lead to. He wanted to prevent that.
