Prince Harry: his new standoff with British justice

A case to follow closely. Tuesday, December 5 marked the first day of the confrontation and Prince Harry and the British Home Office facing the High Court in London. As recalled by Mirrorthe Duke of Sussex challenged the cessation of systematic support for his security when he is in the United Kingdom. As a reminder, when the youngest son of King Charles III and his wife Meghan Markle decided to withdraw from the royal family in 2020 and settle in the United States, they lost this systematic protection from the forces of the order, granted at the expense of the British taxpayer. William’s brother’s appeal against the Interior Ministry therefore concerns a decision taken more than three years ago. At the time, the ministry decided to grant the crowned head police protection on a case-by-case basis.

His lawyer Shaheed Fatima said during the hearing that Prince Harry was “less favorably treated” than the other members of the crown and that he should be provided with security for his visits to the UK. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee responsible for the security of members of the British royal family (RAVEC) has claimed limited resources prevent them from fully ensuring the security of Prince Harry. The case will end on Thursday December 7, 2023.
