A few days ago, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s Spotify deal broke. Now it turns out the Duke of Sussex had planned a podcast where he would talk to the likes of Donald Trump about childhood trauma.

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, Duchess Meghan, 41, and Prince Harry, 38, and Spotify issued a joint statement announcing the end of their contract and thus also of “Archetypes”. “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together,” the statement said. As part of the $25 million deal the Sussexes signed in late 2020, Harry was also set to develop podcast ideas. The 38-year-old was said to be planning to interview famous – and controversial – figures, it has now been revealed.

Before the Spotify deal burst: Prince Harry wanted to interview Putin, Trump and Zuckerberg

Prince Harry wanted to develop a podcast in which he would talk to Donald Trump, 77, Russian President Vladimir Putin, 70, or Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, 39, like “Hello!” now reported. According to Harry, the focus of the conversations was allegedly her upbringing and childhood trauma. King Charles’ son, 74, wanted to research these figures’ formative years to understand their journey to the influential positions they hold today. Harry is said to have already shared his plans for a potential podcast with producers ahead of the surprise contract end.

It seems obvious that Princess Diana’s son, † 36, wants to talk to public figures about their childhood trauma. Finally, Harry is open about his own: Most recently, he tried with expert Dr. Gabor Maté, 79, working through his childhood trauma during a paid live stream. However, it is rather unlikely that his desired guests would have been just as open. According to the British publication, Harry’s plan to attract these guests has caused resentment among his podcast team. Because personalities like Putin and Zuckerberg are usually not very talkative when it comes to their personal experiences.

He wanted to sit down with the Pope

But that’s not all, Prince Harry was also interested in an interview with Pope Francis, 86. Because he is said to have proposed a series that deals with social issues, from climate change to religion. For the latter, he had the head of the Roman Catholic Church in mind, which is said to have confused those responsible.

Prince Harry will no longer be able to realize his ideas on Spotify – but maybe somewhere else? After all, a representative from WME, the artist agency to which Duchess Meghan signed earlier this year, made a meaningful statement to the Wall Street Journal shortly after the announcement of Spotify’s bankruptcy: “The team behind ‘Archetypes’ continues to be proud of the podcast it created on Spotify. Meghan continues to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform.” So maybe Harry will release his own podcast as well. It remains to be seen whether he will actually exchange views with Trump and Co.
