In the fifth episode of “Harry & Meghan”, Prince Harry talks about the Queen’s crisis summit on the occasion of his and Meghan’s resignation as high-ranking royals. Brother Prince William in particular does not come off well.

It was to be expected that Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, would not be squeamish in the next three episodes of their Netflix documentary and would tell their version of the story with the royal family. Now that the last three episodes have been released, it becomes clear how explosive their critical statements towards the royal family really are.

Prince Harry unpacks the crisis summit to resign as royals

The relationship with brother Prince William, 40, is also a topic in the documentary. It’s no secret that the relationship between the sons of King Charles, 74, and Princess Diana, † 36, has deteriorated enormously since Megxit. But now Harry is unpacking about the crisis summit in Sandringham, to which Queen Elizabeth († 96) called in January 2020 on the occasion of Harry and Meghan’s resignation as high-ranking royals.

Charles and William were there too. Harry arrived without Meghan, who was already on her way to Canada. “Only after Meg had flown back to Canada was a meeting arranged. […] They arranged it so that you wouldn’t be there,” says Harry and Meghan adds: “Imagine that their future life is being discussed at a large round table. There is so much at stake and you as a mother, wife and in many ways a target are not invited to participate.”

Sad realization about brother Prince William

Regarding the content of the conversation, Harry then says: “I was offered five options. From totally in, no change, to completely out. I chose option three, half in, half out. We would have our own tasks, but would also be in the name work for the Queen. But it soon became clear that that wasn’t even up for debate. It was horrifying. My brother was yelling at me, my father was saying things that weren’t true and my grandmother was just sitting quietly listening. […] It was difficult, the meeting ended without a concrete plan.”

Although Harry could understand that the company was acting in the interest of the company, he was still deeply disappointed with the outcome of the conversation – mainly because of his brother. “The saddest thing about it was the wedge that was driven between me and my brother. He was now on the side of the institution, which I understand, that’s his legacy. It’s flesh and blood that he’s responsible for preserving responsible to this institution.”

Joint statement without Harry’s permission

After the crisis summit, a press article appeared alleging that William had been bullying Harry out of the family. The palace acted quickly, releasing a joint statement from the brothers calling the story false and the article “offensive and potentially harmful” — without Harry’s consent, he says in the Netflix documentary.

“I couldn’t believe it. They didn’t even ask permission to put my name under such a statement. I called Meghan, told her and she burst into tears. Within four hours, they were ready to lie , to protect my brother. But they had never been willing to tell the truth to protect us for three years.”

In this situation, Harry realized: “There was no other option, we had to get out of there.”
