In his memoirs “Spare”, Prince Harry recalls a situation with his wife, Duchess Meghan, in which he advised her not to take a photo in front of the Taj Mahal. The reason for this was an iconic image of his mother Princess Diana.

Prince Harry, 38, has published his memoirs entitled “Spare” (German title: “Reserve”). In addition to attacks on his royal family, the 416-page book also contains a number of private anecdotes. The British “Daily Mail” reports from “Spare” that Harry once asked his wife Duchess Meghan, 41, not to have a photo taken in front of the world-famous Taj Mahal in India – for good reason. Harry wanted to avoid Meghan being accused of imitating his mother Princess Diana, † 36.

In 1992, Harry’s mother was photographed in front of the UNESCO World Heritage building in northern India – alone on a bench in front of the huge Taj Mahal. In the minds of many people, the world-famous photo became a symbolic expression of the end of the marriage between Diana and today’s King Charles, 74. In December of the same year, the two spouses then announced their official separation.

Duchess Meghan didn’t even know the iconic photo

When Meghan traveled to India many years later, Harry gave her well-intentioned advice: “Don’t take a picture in front of the Taj Mahal.” As Prince Harry continues to write in “Spare”, his wife asked why after his request.

“My mother,” he replied. He then explained that “my mother posed there for a picture that became iconic and I didn’t want anyone to think Meg was trying to imitate my mother”. She, on the other hand, had never heard of this photo, according to Harry, and “found the whole thing amazing and I loved her for being amazed”.
