Prince Joachim of Denmark: how is he after the emergency operation?

Prince Joachim of Denmark is doing better after the emergency surgery. Because of a blood clot in the brain, he had to be treated in a clinic.

The Danish palace gives the all-clear: Prince Joachim of Denmark (51) is apparently better off after the emergency operation. The homepage says: "After the past few days in the hospital and treatment in the intensive care unit, the doctors assume that Prince Joachim will not suffer any physical effects or other injuries from the blood clot."

"Blood clot in the brain"

What happened previously is described in the message as follows: "HRH Prince Joachim underwent an operation for a blood clot in the brain in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 25, at the University Hospital in Toulouse, France."

The blood clot is due to a "sudden injury to an artery," it said. The medical team at the hospital rated the "risk of relapse as low as when the artery healed". Prince Joachim will soon be able to leave the intensive care unit, but will have to stay in the hospital for some time.

Thanks for the support

Prince Joachim and his wife, Princess Marie (44), thank you for the support and the many warm greetings they have received in the past few days. It means a lot to them. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (80), Joachim's mother, also thanks "warmly for all the sympathy shown to the royal family". In addition, it is also asked to "fulfill the desire for peace and respect for privacy".

Prince Joachim of Denmark is the younger brother of the Danish heir to the throne Frederik of Denmark (52). Joachim has been married to the Frenchwoman Marie von Denmark in a second marriage since 2008. The two have two children together: Prince Henrik (11) and Princess Athena (8). From his first marriage (1995-2005) to Alexandra von Frederiksborg (56) came the two sons Prince Nikolai (20) and Prince Felix (18).
