They attend Christian’s birthday dinner – but there’s a catch

In Denmark there will be another good reason to celebrate in just a few days. Prince Christian is turning 18 and is looking forward to a party hosted by his grandmother Queen Margrethe, in which Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will also take part – but with one restriction…
Prince Christian, 17, is certainly looking forward to his big day with great anticipation. The son of Prince Frederik, 55, and Princess Mary, 51, will celebrate his majority on October 15, 2023. Queen Margrethe, 83, invites you to a “gala table at Christiansborg Palace on the occasion of Prince Christian’s 18th birthday”, which of course will also be attended by “the crown prince couple Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, Count Felix, Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie.” it says in the official calendar of the Danish royal family. It is now clear that Prince Joachim, 54, and Princess Marie, 47, will also attend the celebration.
Prince Joachim and Princess Marie travel to Denmark, but…
It is not a given that the couple would be at the celebrations, after all, Joachim only started his new position as defense attaché at the Danish embassy in Washington, DC on September 1st. Apparently he is happy to make the long journey from the USA to Denmark for his nephew, whose godfather he is also.
There is one limitation, however. The visit of Prince Joachim and his Marie is only announced for the evening celebrations. According to the calendar, only the monarch, the birthday child and the crown prince family are expected on the balcony at midday.
Prince Christian has to do without his cousin
As great as the joy of seeing his uncle and aunt in the evening will be, Prince Christian will certainly miss one person sorely. His cousin Graf Nikolai, 28, will most likely not travel home due to his semester abroad in Australia. “I’m of course invited, unfortunately I don’t think I can take part due to the distance between Australia and Denmark,” he told 9Honey in early September. However, he hasn’t made a final decision yet. A small consolation: Nikolai’s younger brother, Count Felix, 21, has accepted his invitation to the gala dinner.
