Prince of Persia Remake isn’t dead yet, despite bad news for pre-orders

Ubisoft confirmed that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still in development at Ubisoft Montreal. The development studio has, however, started to cancel pre-orders of the game.

Pre-orders refunded

“As the game currently has no release dateexisting pre-orders have been canceled and refunded where applicable.” said Ubisoft. But where did the postponed remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time go? It’s a question that, it seems, has been asked many times at Ubisoft, which has just an official FAQ page to explain exactly what is happening.

“Many of you asked us about Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time Remake,” Ubisoft wrote on Twitter last night. “We’ve created an article to help consolidate the responses into one place. Thank you for your continued love and enthusiasm for this title. It means a lot to us!”

Still no concrete news for the remake

The FAQ page itself states that “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is not cancelled. The game is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal.”

Since its announcement in September 2020the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been delayed to three times. Ubisoft confirmed last June that the repeatedly postponed project had finally been taken over by the company’s main studio, that of Montrealhaving previously passed through the hands from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai.

“As of now, a new release date has not been set, we will provide further information on this when we are ready,” the FAQ page continues.

The Prince of Persia remake was originally planned for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and was supposed to cost €39.99. We don’t yet know if any of these details will change along the way.

Square Enix has released its financial results and while the trend is down, it looks like one last game is carrying the company like never before.
