Prince Pavlos: Medical emergency! He had to have surgery

Prince Pavlos had to undergo emergency surgery. He has now revealed this on Instagram after appearing in public several times with an eye patch.

A week ago, Marie-Chantal of Greece, 55, posted a worrying photo of her husband Prince Pavlos, 56. It showed him wearing an eye patch. Now the former reveals Crown Prince of Greece explains the reason for eye protection: retinal detachment – a medical emergency!

Prince Pavlos: Emergency surgery “due to a retinal detachment”

“Thank you for your kind interest and wishes,” Prince Pavlos began the post in his Instagram story on Thursday morning, December 7, 2023. He then reveals the reason for his eye patch: “A week ago I had an operation in London for a retinal detachment.” An extremely serious and rare diagnosis in which the “retina separates from the choroid”, which, according to specialists, can always lead to blindness if left untreated.

Therefore, Prince Pavlos had to act quickly and undergo emergency surgery – in London. He’s now stuck there, as he further reveals, because: “The operation was successful, but I’m not allowed to travel for some time.” He still wishes “everyone a nice holiday.”

Pavlos’ eye patch celebrated its red carpet premiere

Prince Pavlos was already feeling better on December 4th. This is indicated by his appearance alongside his wife Marie-Chantal at the British Fashion Awards 2023 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Pavlo’s eye patch has already celebrated its red carpet premiere. Luckily nothing more happened.

It is not known when the ex-royal, who was born in Athens, will be able to fly back to his homeland and when exactly the ophthalmological emergency occurred. At least this much: Pavlos can laugh again and will be able to admire his wife’s evening dresses with two eyes in the future.
