Prince Philip once said he couldn't think of anything worse than turning 100. Well, "bad" news for the Queen's husband: The time has come on June 10, 2021. In contrast to the headstrong Philip, his family, employees, friends and Royal fans are looking forward to it. The big question: How do you mark this special milestone when the birthday child is not in the mood for a party?

Although it is only six months away, nothing has been heard from Buckingham Palace about a possible festive program. Those responsible, writes "The Telegraph" at the moment, are in "quite a dilemma".

Prince Philip, the birthday grouch

"Let's just say we have a rather reluctant celebrant," a source told the newspaper. "You can't do anything if someone doesn't want something to be done." Palace employees therefore expect a "short process" when addressing the sensitive issue of how the nation is to celebrate the Duke's 100th birthday. Nevertheless, you don't want to let the day go by without a sound and start planning after New Year's Eve. What Prince Philip will accommodate: Due to the ongoing corona pandemic, there will probably be no mass event in London in the summer of 2021 either.

Greetings from Queen Elizabeth

Even if he never wanted to reach 100: Bet that Prince Philip will smile at least once on June 10th? A tradition he cannot avoid is receiving a congratulatory telegram from the Queen. Every Briton can look forward to a letter on his 100th birthday.

An old age in seclusion

Prince Philip has been living a secluded life since summer 2017. Here and there he shows up at weddings, such as those of his great-grandchildren Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie, and only very rarely at appointments. After almost 70 years in the service of the British monarchy, he has earned his life as a pensioner, according to the British – and Queen Elizabeth, 94. She spends many weeks of the year (with the exception of the Corona year 2020) who are still in office and dignity stands, separated from Philip. He has retired to a cottage called Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate, where he devotes himself to painting, reading and meeting friends.
