The whole of Great Britain mourns Prince Philip. The Royal Navy pays tribute to the deceased prince with a gun salute.

Great Britain mourns Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II (94). The 99-year-old died last Friday at Windsor Castle. This Saturday paid tribute the British Army the member of the Royal Family. From 1 p.m. (German time), cannons fired 41 rounds across the UK over a period of 40 minutes. The shots were fired in London, Edinburgh and Belfast, among others, as well as by warships of the Royal Navy.

The Queen’s husband had a soft spot for the military. He was trained at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth and held various military ranks: Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom, Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Navy, Field Marshal (field marshal, supreme general) of the British Army ( Land Forces) and Marshal of the Royal Air Force. He was particularly proud of the latter title, as he had acquired the pilot’s license himself.

After his death became known, the Chief of the General Staff of the British Army declared in a statement on the war veteran: “We will remember him as a dynamic, energetic and charismatic leader who generously gave his time and advice. We deeply regret his death, but we will treat each other with respect, admiration and gratitude and on behalf of the Army remember him. ”
