Queen Elizabeth II and other royals wore green at Prince Philip’s funeral. In doing so, they subtly paid tribute to his style.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) honored her late husband Prince Philip (1921-2021) at a special memorial service on Tuesday. The ceremony for the Duke of Edinburgh, who died last April aged 99, included several poignant tributes to the late royal, including music chosen by the prince himself and flower arrangements inspired by the royal couple’s wedding day.

The monarch also honored her beloved husband, with whom she was married for 73 years, with her outfit. The Queen wore a special shade of green that was a subtle nod to Philip – and she wasn’t the only one. Several attendees, including Princess Anne (71), Duchess Camilla (74) and invited guests like Queen Letizia of Spain (49), also wore this color.

The dark green hue has been the color of Prince Philip’s official wardrobe. Known as “Edinburgh Green”, it was used on staff uniforms and on private vehicles. A green Land Rover was also used to transport Prince Philip’s coffin at his funeral last April.

Queen Elizabeth also wore a brooch believed to have been a gift from Prince Philip, as the “People” magazine further reports.

Almost all family members were there

The monarch was joined by several members of the royal family including Prince William, 39, and Duchess Kate, 40, who brought their eldest children, Prince George, 8, and Princess Charlotte, 6, to honor their great-grandfather. Kate opted for a belted black polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich, which she paired with a wide brimmed hat, while Charlotte wore a navy wool coat by Amaia.

The Queen was accompanied to the service by her son Prince Andrew (62) on Tuesday. Prince Edward (58), Princesses Beatrice (33) and Eugenie (32) and Zara Philips (40) and her family were also there. At the memorial service for Prince Philip, only Prince Harry (37) was missing from the first ranks of the Royals.
