The death of Prince Phillip hits the British Royals website. One detail in particular is painful.

Anyone who surfed royal.uk immediately after the sad news about the death of Prince Phillip, 99, found a changed user interface. The palace wrote:

“It is with deep sadness that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. HRH passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The royal family mourns his loss with people around the world. “

This was followed by a note that the website was currently unavailable because “appropriate changes” would be made. The updates went online in the early evening German time.

The royal family’s website is dedicated to Prince Philip

If you surf the homepage of royal.uk, a memorial page for the Duke of Edinburgh opens automatically, starting with a black and white portrait of the deceased. From there you will first find the death report, a digital book of condolence and information on the formalities of the period of mourning.

On the other hand, the royal family celebrates the life of “the rock” of the Queen: his time as a child and adolescent, his career in the military, his services to the Crown and the Commonwealth of Nations, and his love for the Queen. One quote in particular goes to the heart. It comes from Queen Elizabeth, uttered to her husband on her golden wedding day, November 20, 1997:

Put simply, he has always been my strength and support over the years and I, his whole family and this and many other countries owe him a greater debt than he would ever claim or we shall ever experience.
