British Prime Minister Boris Johnson received the news of Prince Philip’s death “with great sadness”.

Shortly after the death of Prince Philip (1921-2021) at the age of 99, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (56) expressed his grief in front of the press. In a tribute to the deceased, Johnson stated that he received the news “with great sadness”, as reported by the “BBC”, among others.

The late husband of Queen Elizabeth II (94) “helped to steer the Royal Family and the monarchy, so that it remains an institution that is indisputably essential for the balance and happiness of our national life”.

Philip “shaped and inspired the lives of countless young people,” Johnson said. At tens of thousands of events he “promoted their hopes and encouraged them in their endeavors”. The deceased will be remembered forever for his “steadfast support” of the Queen – not only as a prince consort, but also as a husband. The Queen and Philip had been married since 1947.

A nation thanks

With Philip, the family has not only lost “a much-loved and highly respected” personality, “but also a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, grandfather and, in recent years, also great-grandfather”. Johnson concluded by saying, “Today we mourn with Her Majesty the Queen. We offer her and all of her family our condolences and we say as a nation and kingdom for the extraordinary life and work of Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh , Thanks.”

Justin Welby, 56, the Archbishop of Canterbury, chose similar words. “Along with the rest of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, I mourn the loss of Prince Philip the Dukes of Edinburgh and thank God for his extraordinary life of dedicated service.” Whenever Welby met Philip, “his obvious joie de vivre, his thirst for research and his ability to communicate with people of all origins and from all walks of life” stood out.
