Around noon, the first mourners arrived at Windsor Castle to bid farewell to Prince Philip.

A few hours before the start of the funeral service for Prince Philip, who died on April 9, the first mourners arrived at Windsor Castle on April 17. From 4 p.m. German time, only 30 people will take part in the ceremony due to the corona pandemic.

In addition to Queen Elizabeth II (94), who was married to Prince Philip for 73 years, the children and grandchildren of the couple with their partners are of course expected first. Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (38) and Prince Harry (36) will be there without their children. It was already known in advance that Harry’s wife, Duchess Meghan (39) and their son Archie (1), among others, had not traveled from the USA. Doctors had advised Meghan, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, not to travel.

There will be a short procession before the ceremony, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. Philip had asked for a small military funeral. His coffin was first laid out in a private chapel in Windsor. At around 11:00 a.m. he was brought into the castle. Before the service, the coffin should then be placed on a cart. Shortly afterwards, the procession sets out to the nearby St. George’s Chapel, where the funeral service takes place.
