Prince Philip: The royals open the family album for their birthday

Prince William (37) and Duchess Kate (38) publicly congratulated Prince Philip on their 99th birthday. They posted photos on Instagram showing Williams' grandfather. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote: "We wish the Duke of Edinburgh a very happy 99th birthday!"

Philips firstborn, Prince Charles (71), also shared congratulations on his official Instagram account. He also presents a photo in which he smiles at his father at an official appearance. On his "Clarence House" account there is also a black and white childhood photo showing Charles and Philip on a boat trip together.

Royal family looks back over the past decades

The royal family had previously published a new photo of Queen Elizabeth II (94) and her husband to celebrate his birthday. The couple, who has been married for almost 73 years, had their photos taken on the site of Windsor Castle last week. The Queen and Prince Philip went there in mid-March in corona isolation.

In addition, the "Royal Family" account shared a number of other family pictures in honor of Prince Philip, including from the time of the Duke of Edinburgh as a young naval officer. The royal family also posted other pictures showing Philip and the Queen, such as when they visited Canada in 1951 or on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after Elizabeth's coronation ceremony in 1953. One of the photos shows the couple with Prince Charles as a baby.
