Prince Philip: This is how he spends his 99th birthday

Buckingham Palace has released a new photo of Queen Elizabeth II (94) and the Duke of Edinburgh for Prince Philip's 99th birthday. The two celebrate their birthday today at Windsor Castle, where they have been in Corona isolation since mid-March. The new picture was taken last week on the grounds of the castle.

The portrait is the first photo of Prince Philip since he left the hospital on December 24 last year, according to the BBC. In London he had been treated in a clinic for four days. What the hospitalization was all about is not known. In the new picture, Philip is wearing a blue blazer and tie, while the Queen is presenting a heart-shaped diamond brooch with a gray, yellow-flowered dress by Angela Kelly, which has been seen at several appearances.

Married for over 70 years

Prince Philip, who has been married to the Queen for over 72 years, has rarely appeared in public since stepping down from his public duties in 2017. In April, however, he published a statement in which he thanked the helpers in the Corona crisis. According to the BBC, Joe Little from Majesty magazine said that lock-up time together was a good opportunity for Prince Philip and the Queen to spend a lot of time together again.

Philip had lived mainly on his estate in Sandringham in the past few years, almost 200 kilometers away from his wife, who is mostly in Buckingham Palace or Windsor. The Royal expert therefore assumes that they will also celebrate the Duke on his birthday at Windsor Castle today. Otherwise, Philip is said to spend time reading, writing and painting during his retirement.
