The Queen recently attended the memorial service for her late husband Philip. She was accompanied by Prince Andrew.

At a memorial service for Prince Philip (1921-2021) on March 29, Queen Elizabeth II (95) unexpectedly appeared alongside Prince Andrew (62). The British Queen presented herself with a cane and on her son’s arm. Philip, the Queen’s husband, passed away last April at the age of 99.

Prince Andrew had made numerous negative headlines in recent years. The Royal only settled an abuse lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre (38) before a US court out of court in February. Andrew, who is said to have paid millions to Giuffre, has always denied the allegations against him. The Queen’s appearance now shows “that she loves her son with all her heart and believes him”, explains Royal expert Robert Jobson according to the US magazine “People”.

The Queen ‘insisted’

The Queen’s plan has made unnamed members of the royal family uncomfortable, but she “insisted” that Andrew accompany her. It also made sense that he was showing his mother by his side. On the one hand he has no one to accompany him, on the other hand he is “not guilty of anything in the eyes of the law. She trusts Andrew.” Even if he should no longer take on any official duties, the prince was able to pay tribute to his late father. In January, Andrew had to relinquish his military titles and patronage. It was said at the time that he would continue to take on no official, public tasks.

There had been concerns the monarch, who lives and works at Windsor Castle, would not be able to come to London to attend the service at Westminster Abbey due to her apparently limited mobility. Shortly before, however, it had become known that Queen Elizabeth II would arrive. With the exception of Prince Harry (37), the entire first squad of British royals was there. Prince William (39) and his wife, Duchess Kate (40), even brought their children Prince George (8) and Princess Charlotte (6) with them. Only baby Prince Louis (3) was not there.
