They show unity: Harry and William showed up side by side during the unveiling of the statue in honor of their mother Diana.

Together with his brother Prince William (39), Prince Harry (36) unveiled a statue on July 1st on the grounds of Kensington Palace honoring their late mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997). The princess, who died in a car accident, would have turned 60 that day.

Harry had traveled to London for the ceremony. It is his first visit to the UK since his grandfather’s funeral, Prince Philip (1921-2021), in April. The meeting of the two brothers was eagerly awaited, as the relationship has remained tense since the much-discussed Oprah interview, among other things. According to British media reports, the brothers’ joint preparations for the ceremony on July 1st were initially allegedly limited to a “minimal exchange of text messages”. As the “Daily Mail” reports, the English victory against Germany at the European Football Championship is said to have made the two of them exchange some more happy news.

In honor of their mother, the brothers seemed to have thrown their quarrels overboard that day at least. Side by side and judging by the pictures in a good mood, the two made their way to the Sunken Garden, where the bronze sculpture by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley has found its place. The celebration took place in a private setting and due to the Corona regulations with few guests.

Emotional statement from the brothers

During the unveiling, the brothers acted together and freed the Diana statue from a large cloth. It is not yet known whether they previously gave separate speeches, as previously suspected. However, after the ceremony, at which their uncle Charles Spencer (57) was also present, William and Harry published a common statement on the official Cambridges Instagram account.

“Today, on our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – traits that made her a fighter for the good in the world and changed countless lives for the better,” it reads. Every day the brothers wish “that she was still with us, and we hope that this statue will forever be seen as a symbol of their life and legacy.”

Is the joint statement a sign of rapprochement or did the brothers just want to behave professionally according to the occasion? At least they didn’t seem to have spent much time together. According to the Daily Mail Prince Harry arrived at the Kensingon Palace a few minutes before the ceremony and left a few minutes later. It is not known whether he will meet his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II (95) after her trip to Scotland or whether he is already back on the plane to his adopted Californian home.
