Prince William experienced traumas as a rescue pilot. For him, the world had become a "depressing, darker place".

Prince William, 38, spoke about the life-changing experiences he had while serving as a civilian air rescue pilot. When he talked to his wife Duchess Kate (39) and frontline staff about supporting mourners, he made public that he had been traumatized for weeks at the time. Seeing people die on a regular basis bothered him.

"When you see so much death and so much grief, it has an impact on how you see the world," the British Daily Mail quoted the 38-year-old as saying. At that time he had the feeling that the world was a "much more depressing, darker, blacker place" than the one he had known before. Simply shaking off what he had experienced was difficult for him. "It stays with you. At home it stays with you for weeks," recalled Prince William. You are "so under pressure" and experience "such a high level of sadness, trauma and death that it affects your own life and the life of the family".

Prince William served in the Royal Air Force for over seven years. In 2013 he quit his service as a soldier and completed training as a civilian rescue pilot.
