Prince William has canceled a planned trip to New York because it would have fallen during the British Royals’ official mourning period.

The English heir to the throne Prince William (40) will not travel to New York this month as planned. That reports “People”. The “Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit”, an environmental protection summit organized by Prince William’s charity and Bloomberg Philanthrophies, starts in the east coast metropolis on September 21st. William’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), will be buried on September 19. The royal mourning period ends seven days after the monarch’s funeral, on September 26. During this period, the activities of the Royals pause. For example, the next episode of Duchess Meghan’s (41) new podcast “Archetypes” will only appear on Spotify afterwards.

The Earthshot Prize is Prince William’s favorite environmental project

Protecting the environment is particularly important to Prince William. The Royal, together with the naturalist David Attenborough (96), launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020. This year’s award ceremony will be held in Boston in December 2022. Before that – now without Prince William’s participation – a forum will take place in New York, which will bring together the winners of the previous year with prominent participants such as Bill Gates (66), Matt Damon (51) and Cate Blanchett (53). Michael Bloomberg (80), former New York Mayor and founder of Bloomberg Philanthrophies, will continue to serve as patron of the event.
