Prince William travelled to Scotland on September 19, 2024 to visit the “Homewards Aberdeen” initiative. There he gave an emotional speech that was primarily intended to encourage.

The “Homewards” project has now become one of the heart topics of Prince William, 42. The heir to the throne is passionate about improving opportunities for homeless people – not just in England, but throughout the United Kingdom. William’s trip to Scotland proves this once again: On September 19, he visited the “Homewards Aberdeen” initiative, one of a total of six pioneering locations of the “Homewards” program launched by William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42.

Prince William: “When you’re down, you think people don’t care”

On Thursday, the Prince of Wales visited the Shelter Scotland organisation, which is working to combat the housing shortage in Scotland, and held a “Thank You” event for employees from Aberdeen’s homeless sector. According to Hello Magazine, these events are not only intended to be used to thank local people, but also to give encouragement and hope. Among other things, the 42-year-old wanted to convince landlords and companies that it is not risky to help homeless people. In addition, William wants to “encourage people without a permanent home to realise that their lives matter.” Hello Magazine quotes him further:

When you’re at rock bottom, you think people don’t care and there’s no way out… but there is hope.

William is convinced that there are “a multitude of people [gibt]who want to help but don’t know how.” With their “Homewards” project, he and Catherine also want to raise awareness of hidden homelessness and stress the importance of offering help early on in order to prevent people from getting into such a precarious situation in the first place.

William and Catherine: “It is a sad fact that …”

On its website, the organization “Community Planning Aberdeen” informs that as part of “Homewards” the city will “support over the next five years [wird]to form a coalition of committed people and organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors who will work together to develop and implement an action plan and an innovative housing project aimed at unlocking housing on a large scale.”

“Homewards” was launched last year by Prince William and the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales. “It is a sad fact that homelessness still exists in 2023,” the website warns. And it goes on to explain: “For this reason [wurde] Homewards: a transformative, locally-led five-year programme to demonstrate that together it is possible to end homelessness and make it rare, brief and unrepeatable.”
