England is in the valley of tears and right in the middle of it all Prince William, Duchess Kate and Prince George. They had to witness the bankruptcy in the final.

In the end, the royal support did not help either: England lost the final of the UEFA EURO 2020 late on Sunday evening on penalties and at their home Wembley Stadium against the new European champions Italy. Before that, Prince William (39), Duchess Kate (39) and their eldest son Prince George (7) kept their fingers crossed for the Three Lions for 120 minutes in the official gallery. After the last miss of their Englishmen, the looks of the royals naturally petrified in the stands.

A good hour after the triumph of the Italians, William had apparently found his words again and digested the initial shock. On his family’s official Instagram account he wrote of a snapshot of the defeated British team: “Heartbreaking. […] You’ve all come this far, but unfortunately this time wasn’t our day. You can all hold your head up and be proud of yourself – I know there is more to come. “

Prince William also addressed a few words to the winner and congratulated the Squadra Azzurra on “a great victory”. By the way, it was a thoroughly sporty Sunday for Kate: Before that, she watched the men’s final between Novak Djokovic (34) and Matteo Berrettini (25) at Wimbledon.
