Prince William laid flowers for Matt Ratana on Wednesday. The police officer was shot dead on duty in September 2020.

Prince William (38) remembered the late police officer Matt Ratana on Wednesday (May 12), who was shot dead on duty last year. At the Croydon Custody Center in London, the Duke of Cambridge met several of Sergeant Ratana’s colleagues to offer his condolences and to inquire about some of their memories of working with him. Born in New Zealand, he was in the service of the Metropolitan Police (Met for short) for around 30 years. A 23-year-old who was in police custody shot the officer, the Metropolitan Police said in late September 2020. The policeman was seriously injured and taken to hospital and died from his injuries.

Prince William found out more according to an Instagram post on the official Cambridges account on the occasion of the “Mental Health Awareness Week” currently taking place via the Met’s programs to support the mental health of their police officers. In the course of this, he also met Dexter, the first dog of the Met Police to support the welfare and wellbeing of the employees. Its purpose is to help officers deal with stressful and traumatic events on duty.
