After the death of his grandfather Prince Philip, Prince William canceled his appearance at the BAFTA Awards ceremony.

Prince William (38) has canceled his appearance at the BAFTA Awards on April 10th and 11th after the death of his grandfather Prince Philip (1921-2021). According to the US portal “Variety” the British Academy of Film and Television Arts said in a statement: “Given the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge will no longer be part of the BAFTA program this weekend. Our thoughts go with the royal family, who we hereby share express deepest sympathy. ”

The two planned shows of the BAFTA Awards are due to be broadcast on the BBC. Prince William should have had a taped conversation with a former BAFTA winner on Saturday about filmmaking in lockdown. At the main award ceremony on Sunday he was supposed to give a live virtual speech. Prince William has been President of BAFTA since 2010 and usually attends the ceremony with his wife Duchess Kate (39).

His grandfather, Prince Philip, was the organization’s first president in 1959. Prince William took over the task from his aunt Princess Anne (70). According to “Variety”, this year’s awards ceremony is expected to pay tribute to Prince Philip, who died on April 9th.
