Prince William + Prince Harry: caught cold! Anger over new documentary about Diana’s death

August 31, 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. On this day, the British broadcaster Channel 4 wants to broadcast a four-part series dealing with conspiracy theories about the tragic end of the Royal in a tunnel in Paris. Prince William and Prince Harry are said not to have been informed about the TV project in advance.

Her mother’s premature death still hurts her: Prince William, 40, and Prince Harry, 37, only unveiled a bronze statue of Princess Diana, † 36, in July 2021 on the occasion of her 60th birthday in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace. For this matter of the heart, the allegedly divided brothers even put their differences aside for a short time. About a year later, the siblings could stick together again in one thing: the four-part series “Investigating Diana: Death in Paris” is to be broadcast on the anniversary of the death of the world-renowned “Queen of Hearts” – without the blessing of the sons who have been sensitive to it in the past unauthorized stories about her family responded.

Prince William and Prince Harry: The death of their mother led to wild conspiracy theories

There are still many theories surrounding Diana’s accidental death in a car tunnel in Paris. There was even speculation about a contract killing. However, the circumstances of her tragic death are also perfect for wild guesses: Prince Charles’ ex-wife, 73, first enjoyed a relaxed dinner with her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed, † 42, in the posh Parisian hotel “Ritz” that evening. . Camera footage in the elevator then shows the two on the way to their limousine. The journey turned into a chase. Paparazzi in cars and on motorcycles raced behind the car. The unbelievable accident then happened in the Alma tunnel: the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pillar at high speed. Dodi and his – as it turns out later – drunk chauffeur died at the scene of the accident. Diana succumbed to her injuries in a hospital a few hours later.

A real-life drama, now set to be narrated in a Channel 4/Discovery Plus co-production, as an “engrossing and forensic police investigation” exploring “how powerful individuals, the press and the internet created and fueled conspiracy theories that have overwhelmed the facts and questioned the truth”.

Diana’s sons are said to have been clueless

As unnamed sources claimed to the British newspaper “Telegraph”, neither William nor Harry were consulted beforehand. Neither would have had the opportunity to see excerpts or even all parts of the TV series in advance. Well conceivable that it seethes in the sons of Diana.

The series will take a close look at the investigation into the accident, according to the broadcaster. First, in 1997, the French Brigade Criminelle investigated the incident. Seven years later, the British Metropolitan Police took up the tragedy again. The creators of the TV project spoke to officials from both units involved. Some of them will have their say in public for the first time.

According to the announcement, the series will also explore the “public’s insatiable demand for answers, which has fueled unprecedented press interest and the proliferation of online chat rooms where speculation about the ‘true cause’ of Diana’s death became one of the first viral sensations of the early… Internet became.”

Producers promise facts

“Investigating Diana: Death in Paris” aims to bring the facts back into general consciousness. “It was really important to make this series,” explains Henry Singe, executive producer of Sandpaper Films, adding, “Not only because we hope it will put to rest the conspiracy theories that continue to tell the truth about it obscure what happened that night in the Alma Tunnel – but because the story is a window into today’s world, where conspiracy theories no longer live in the dark corners of the internet but have become mainstream and indeed by people in positions of real power to be advanced.”

And Shaminder Nahal, Senior Editor at Channel 4, adds: “This extremely compelling series examines in forensic detail what happened in the investigation following the death of Princess Diana – how it was for the officers working on a huge global message, which was not only a tragedy for the families involved, but also a massive internet phenomenon.”

Next TV documentary causes trouble

The life and death of Princess Diana will probably never lose its fascination. Another documentary will be released just in time for the anniversary of the death of the Royal. The broadcaster HBO has also caused trouble with her descendants with “The Princess” in advance because the documentary is supposed to show recordings from her scandalous “Panorama” interview with Martin Bashir from 1995 again.

In 2021, investigations revealed that the reporter used lies, intrigues and forged documents to trick his royal interlocutor into revealing her most intimate feelings and thoughts in front of the cameras. Prince William then expressly demanded that this material should never be shown publicly again. Rights holders BBC have said they no longer want to broadcast or license it. Apparently, this promise was not fulfilled.
