After several football professionals had been racially insulted on the Internet in the past few days, the Royal now intervened.

After England international Marcus Rashford (23) was exposed to racist insults on Instagram, even Prince William (38) has now turned on. "Racist abuse – whether on the field, in the stands or on social media – is despicable and must stop now," writes Prince William on Instagram and Twitter.

Racism must not be tolerated

Everyone has a responsibility to create an environment in which such abuse will not be tolerated, "and those who choose to spread hatred and division will be held accountable for their actions," the prince admonished. On the other hand, he praised all the players, fans, clubs and organizations who continue to draw attention to and condemn this abuse.

Prince William is President of the FA, the national football association. Rashford had previously commented on the racial slurs. He replied that he was proud to be a black man every day. Nobody and no comment could change that. In addition to him, his football colleagues Anthony Martial (25), Axel Tuanzebe (23) and Reece James (21) had been racially attacked in the past few days.
