Tipsy meeting with royal fans before marriage to Kate

When Prince William tied the knot with his Catherine on April 29, 2011, a slight hint of residual alcohol must have wafted around his bride’s delicate nose.

From an early age he grew up with his role as heir to the throne and later as king. Prince William is used to being in the public eye and handling exciting situations. But your own wedding is said to have thrown the royal completely out of the concept. Out of sheer excitement, he looked too deep into the glass just hours before the wedding, as revealed by his brother Harry.

The most beautiful day in life can scare even the most seasoned man. It was apparently the same for Prince William, 40, who allegedly enjoyed a drop too much on the eve of his wedding. A condition that initially made the royal daring, but literally gave him a headache the next day when he walked to the altar, as his brother Prince Harry, 38, reveals in his memoirs.

Prince William treated himself to Rum and Cokes on the eve of his wedding

The high-proof misfortune took its course at a joint dinner between the two brothers with King Charles, 74, and William’s best man James Meade and Thomas van Straubenzee in Clarence House. The groom-to-be was incredibly nervous. “Thomas and James forced him down a few glasses of Rum Coke, which actually seemed to calm him down.”

After eating together, the group gathered in the TV room and watched the news, as Harry described in his book “Spare”. [deutscher Titel: “Reserve”] reported. “Reporters interviewed people who had camped right outside Clarence House hoping to get a front row seat at the wedding.” Together they went to a window and convinced themselves of the anticipatory siege.

“We should go to them!”

“Many drank and sang. Some cooked themselves something to eat on camp stoves. Others went around, hooting and celebrating as if you get married tomorrow,” the Duke of Sussex describes the scenario in retrospect. “Willy, heart warm from the rum, shouted: ‘We should go to them!'” Inspired by the alcohol, the tipsy marriage candidate contacted his security guards. “Strongly advise against it “They are said to have answered immediately. But William remained stubborn.

“No,” he wrote back. “It’s the only right thing. I want to get out there. I have to meet the people!” Said and done! And he took Brother Harry with him in tow. There was nothing else to do. “He asked me to come with him. He begged me!”, the younger man recalls the uncomfortable situation. It hadn’t escaped his notice that his brother wasn’t quite sober anymore. “I saw in his eyes that the rum was making itself felt. He needed backup.”

The siblings plunged into the fray together – but with a safe distance: “We went out, walked along the edge of the crowd, shook hands, people wished Willy well, told him they loved him, they loved Kate.” But the royal team said goodbye pretty quickly. The beds called. William, in particular, needed sleep. “He was drunk. But we were both emotionally and physically exhausted. We needed rest.”

“You have a flag”

But that was obviously not given to the older man who was willing to marry, as Harry found out the next morning. William looked as if he hadn’t slept a wink, the younger man recalls. “His face was sunken, his eyes were red.” When driving together to Westminster Abbey, Harry smells the roast: “You have a flag,” he said to his brother. “I opened the window a bit for fun, pinched my nose – offered him mints.”

It is doubtful whether Harry’s first aid to today’s Princess of Wales, 41, actually saved a permille pregnant “Yes”. The fact that William is still drunk with happiness with his Kate can be smelled from many meters away.
