Princess Beatrice: That’s why she lives in a palace – and Eugenie doesn’t

The connection between Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could not be closer. It is now reinforced by the fact that both sisters became mothers for the first time this year. But one thing distinguishes the two: Beatrice lives in a palace, but Eugenie does not.

Little Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi was born on September 18, 2021. She lives with her parents Princess Beatrice, 33, and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 38, in an apartment in St James’s Palace. Beatrice previously lived here with her sister Princess Eugenie, 31, before she moved to Ivy Cottage on the Kensington Palace estate on October 12, 2018, before her wedding to Jack Brooksbank, 35.

Thereafter, during the first lockdown, the couple shared the Royal Lodge in Windsor with Eugenie’s and Beatrice’s parents, Sarah Ferguson, 62, and Prince Andrew, 61. In the meantime, the young Royal and the entrepreneur have settled down at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor together with their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, who was born on February 9, 2021. The house has a total of five bedrooms and is officially the home of Prince Harry, 37, and Duchess Meghan, 40, in the UK.

Why does Princess Beatrice only live in a palace?

But why is St James’s Palace considered a palace in contrast to the country estate in Windsor and how is it that one of the Queen’s granddaughters lives there and the other does not? Well, St James’s Palace was the official London residence of the British monarchs until 1837 before becoming Buckingham Palace, now the official residence of Queen Elizabeth at 95.

There is no rule stipulating which member of the royal family can live in a palace. So it is pure coincidence that Princess Beatrice’s residence, unlike Princess Eugenie’s home, bears the title of a palace.
