For Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, Princess Charlotte wears a piece of jewelry that pays tribute to the late monarch and has a very special story to tell.

For the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth († 96), guests from all over the world traveled to London to mourn their head with the Royal Family. In addition to the dress codes for royal and non-royal guests, the jewelery with which Duchess Catherine, Princess of Wales, and even little Princess Charlotte, 7, pay tribute to the late monarch, is particularly striking.

Princess Charlotte arrives with a special gift from the Queen

It is the first public funeral to be attended by Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte. For this special occasion, Princess Charlotte is wearing a significant piece of jewelery for the first time: a silver brooch in the shape of a horseshoe is pinned to her black, buttoned-up coat – a touching homage to her great-grandmother, who was a self-confessed horse lover.

The diamond brooch was even a gift from her deceased great-grandmother. But that’s not all: the filigree brooch belonged to her mother, Queen Mother, before Queen Elizabeth II, who was photographed with it almost 100 years ago! The wife of Queen Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, who died in 2002, then bequeathed the piece of jewelry to her horse-loving eldest daughter, and now it is owned by little Charlotte.

The narrow-brimmed hat with black bow is by milliner Jane Taylor. Charlotte wears a black coat from the Spanish label Ancar, black wool tights and black leather shoes.

Duchess Catherine wears meaningful necklace

The four-strand pearl choker worn by Duchess Catherine is a gift from the Japanese government to the Queen in the 1970s. Kate previously wore it to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary celebrations and Philip’s funeral last year. The Queen had also lent the piece of jewelery to Princess Diana († 36) for a state banquet in the 80s.

Kate wears dangling pearl earrings that have long been part of the Queen’s jewelry collection. The “Bahrain Pearl Drop” earrings consist of a round diamond stud to which hangs another baguette-cut diamond, followed by a single pearl, a wedding gift from the Hakim of Bahrain, in an arrangement typical of the 1940s .

She’s wearing a fitted Alexander McQueen coat dress, probably a custom order. The flared pleated skirt and V-neckline are reminiscent of the white coat dress she wore to the Queen’s Jubilee just a few months ago. She combines this with a black hat with bow details and a net veil.

Prince George is shown in dark blue

It is also the first public funeral for Prince George to attend. He appears holding Papa William’s hand in a dark blue suit. Although it’s traditionally unusual to wear dark blue instead of black, the heir to the throne goes better with his father’s military uniform. He wears a white shirt, a black tie and black shoes.
