Princess Diana’s old bicycle goes under the hammer. A British auction house is offering the memorabilia for sale.

For Royal fans, there is a very special opportunity at the end of April: You can bid on Princess Diana’s (1961-1997) old bicycle at a British auction house. Burstow & Hewett in Sussex is offering the blue Raleigh Traveler three-speed ladies bike for sale. Princess Diana was often photographed with it in London in the 1970s before she married Prince Charles (72) in 1981.

Not a vehicle for a royal

The bicycle is said to have always been a thorn in the side of the royal family, it says on the auction house’s website. The vehicle was “incompatible” with her future status as Princess of Wales. Princess Diana eventually sold the bike to a friend’s father. A letter from the same man will be auctioned with the special souvenir. It says that “Diana was hoping that the [ursprüngliche] Sale would be kept secret “.

The man is said to have owned the bike for 27 years. In 2008 he sold it for £ 211. Ten years later, the bike last changed hands for 9,200 pounds (around 10,600 euros). The auction of Princess Diana’s old bike will take place on April 28th and will be streamed live from the auction house.
