Princess Diana: These three actresses bring her to life

Princess Diana died in a car accident 23 years ago. She will soon bring three actresses back to life for TV and cinema.

23 years ago the world stood still for a moment: Princess Diana (1961-1997) died on August 31, 1997 at the age of only 36. The mother of Prince William (38) and Harry (35) succumbed to injuries in a tragic car accident in Paris. Since then, Lady Di's eventful life has been extensively illuminated for film and television. Soon three more actresses will slip into the role of the "Queen of Hearts".

Emma Corrin and Elizabeth Debicki play the princess in "The Crown"

Fans of "The Crown" should already have marked November 15th in their calendar. Then the new episodes of the British Netflix series will finally be launched, the plot should cover the years 1977 to 1990. In the fourth season, the young Diana Frances Spencer appears for the first time, the future wife of Prince Charles (71). It is played by the 24-year-old newcomer Emma Corrin, who has already gained series experience. In 2019 she appeared in both an episode of "Grantchester" and four episodes of "Pennyworth".

In addition to the fourth season, which has already been shot, Netflix has already given the green light for a fifth and sixth season of "The Crown". It no longer plays Emma Corrin, the former Princess of Wales, but Elizabeth Debicki (30, "The Night Manager"). Thematically, it will probably be about the events of the 1990s and early 2000s – including the marital problems of Prince Charles and Lady Di, their divorce and the early death of the mother of two. Debicki would be the last actress to portray Princess Diana in the series about the British royal family.

Kristen Stewart becomes Diana in "Spencer"

In 2021, "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart (30) will also be in front of the camera as "Queen of Hearts". "Jackie" director Pablo LarraĆn (43) wants to focus on "Spencer", one of the last Christmas parties of the princess among the royals. The biography takes place on three days in the early 1990s on the royal estate in Sandringham, Norfolk. Diana has more and more doubts about her marriage to Prince Charles and looks for a way out not to end up as the (unhappy) Queen of England.

The Chilean filmmaker's drama has already garnered praise from the start even before filming began. As the industry portal "Deadline" announced at the beginning of July, the New York company FilmNation has already sold the distribution rights for "Spencer" in Cannes' virtual marketplace worldwide. Only China has so far shown no interest in the film project.
