Sad news from Princess Hisako and family: Fumiko Tottori, the mother of the Japanese princess, has died.

Princess Hisako, 70, has to cope with a great loss: her mother Fumiko Tottori passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, of old age at the facility where she last lived. She was 96 years old.

Princess Hisako will mourn for 90 days

As a result, Princess Hisako will mourn for 90 days from now, and her eldest daughter Princess Tsuguko, 37, will join the 30-day mourning period, the Imperial Household Agency officially announced on Wednesday, July 19. In addition, the 70-year-old will cancel her planned visits to New Zealand and Australia, which she was supposed to start on Friday.

The last meeting of mother and daughter

According to the Imperial Household Agency, Princess Hisako met her mother for the last time before she was forced to travel to Osaka for work reasons on Monday, July 17. Princess Tsuguko was at her grandmother’s deathbed along with Ayako Moriya, 32, Princess Hisako’s third daughter, and Ayako’s husband Kei Moriya.

As her father was a diplomat, Fumiko Tottori lived in France during her childhood. Among other roles, Tottori was the leader of Les Amies de Langue Francaise, a Japanese-French exchange group, and was appointed Officier de la Legion d’Honneur by the French government in 2013. Her late husband Shigejiro was, among other things, president of the French branch of the Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co.

Hisako has been a widow for over 20 years

Hisako Tottori graduated in 1975 Girton College at Cambridge University. Nine years later, on September 17, 1984, she became engaged to Prinz norihitotakamado, †47, still in the same year, on December 6th, they tied the knot. On this day, Hisako received the title “Princess Takamado”. The couple have three daughters together. On November 21, 2002, Prince died norihitoTakamado of heart failure.
