Like mother, like daughter: On the evening of the big birthday gala on June 17, 2022, it was shown once again that Princess Ingrid Alexandra may have inherited the emotional side of her mother, Princess Mette-Marit, 48. During and after several speeches given by the royal couple, the crown prince couple and finally the princess herself, emotions ran high – including touching moments between daughter, mother and grandmother Marit Tjessem, 85.

At the gala that King Harald, 85, and Queen Sonja, 84, organized in honor of Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th birthday in Oslo Castle, not only the crème da la crème of European nobility strolled across the royal floor. There were also some tears.

Especially during the joint speech, with which Prince Haakon, 48, and Mette-Marit alternately paid tribute to their daughter, the emotion of the princess could be seen: she took out a handkerchief – as well as during her own subsequent speech of thanks to her brothers – and dabbed it tears from the eyes.

Among other things, the crown prince addressed the following loving words to his daughter:

It is important for me to say to you today: You have many people around you who want to help and support you. We all love you: Marius and Magnus – who will always be there for you, just as you will always be there for them. Mom you can go to when things get difficult, who is so good at listening, articulating problems and finding solutions. And then you have me – and your whole extended family.

At Ingrid Alexandra’s own speech, Papa Haakon’s eyes filled with tears of pride and of course Mama Mette-Marit couldn’t keep her place! She lovingly wrapped her now adult daughter in a motherly hug.

Grandmother Marit Tjessem is also touched

Royal house expert Caroline Vagle recalls to the Norwegian daily “Dagbladet” that Crown Princess Mette-Marit is an emotional person: “She obviously had trouble holding back her tears during the speech”. About Ingrid Alexandra she says: “The princess wiped away her tears when her mother’s voice broke.”

The royal women seem to have inherited this emotional side from Mette-Marit’s mother. Because even Marit Tjessem, who also gave a speech, eventually lay in her granddaughter’s arms in front of the crowd of guests.
