The national holiday is traditionally celebrated in Norway on May 17th. This year too, the Norwegian royal family did not miss out on the festive atmosphere in sunny weather. On Friday morning, Crown Princess Mette-Marit (50), Crown Prince Haakon (50) and their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra (20), appeared in front of their Skaugum estate. There they welcomed the traditional children’s pageant.

The trio was accompanied by the royal family dog Molly Fiskebolle, as photos on the Norwegians’ Instagram channel show. However, who was missing was Prince Sverre Magnus (18). The comment on the Instagram post said that the young royal was a graduate this year and was celebrating graduation with his class on the national holiday.

His sister Ingrid Alexandra, on the other hand, actively supported her parents on site after she was also unable to attend the national holiday last year because she was finishing school. This year she appeared in her new costume, the Bunad, for the first time. She received this as a present for her 18th birthday from the Norwegian community of Nore og Uvdal.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra appears in military uniform

Later in the morning, the almost entire Crown Prince family gathered together with King Harald V (87) and Queen Sonja (86) on the palace balcony in Oslo. Here too, Ingrid Alexandra caused a fashion surprise: the 20-year-old appeared in her military uniform. The background is that she has been doing her military service since the beginning of the year.

In Norway, the signing of the 1814 constitution is celebrated on May 17th. In the Scandinavian country, the holiday is celebrated primarily for families: children’s parades take place all over the country on this day. On this day, Norwegians wear their Bunader – the traditional Norwegian costume. Patterns and colors indicate a person’s geographical origins or ancestors.
