Princess Ingrid Alexandra: These royals will celebrate her coming of age with her

Princess Ingrid Alexandra had to be patient for half a year. In a few days her 18th birthday will finally be celebrated – and twice over. Not only a colorful cultural evening with selected celebrities awaits the future heir to the throne of Norway, but also a stylish gala dinner with representatives from the European royal houses.

Finally, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 18, gets the party she had to wait for so long. The daughter of Prince Haakon, 48, and Princess Mette-Marit, 48, actually came of age on January 21, 2022. Due to the corona situation, which was still uncertain at the time, the official celebrations had been postponed by half a year. While King Harald, 85, and Queen Sonja, 84, will host their granddaughter an evening gala dinner in the Royal Castle on June 17, 2022, Ingrid Alexandra will receive her birthday present from the government the evening before.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra: The government gives her time for encounters

The birthday child can look forward to a colorful cultural evening with a festive dinner in the impressive Deichman Library in Oslo’s Bjørvika district. In the meantime, even a detailed program for this first official birthday party has been published. Anything but stiff affair, because Princess Ingrid Alexandra can count on interesting guests.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, 61, is quoted as saying on the Norwegian government’s website that he is looking forward to welcoming guests from all over the country to this “important milestone in Norwegian history”. After all, Princess Ingrid Alexandra is Norway’s first female heir to the throne.

The guest list for this evening includes 202 participants from all over the country and 25 young people from each province. In addition to members of the government, parliament and the Supreme Court, well-wishers from all areas of society with different interests and views of life will also be represented. Emphasis was placed on inviting young representatives of sport, cultural life, social life, politics and organizational life or, as Støre said: “people who will help create the country where the Princess will be involved to take it into the future. They are a cross-section of Norway today and part of the Princess’ gift is being able to celebrate with them.”

Cultural program connects history and generations

In addition, Ingrid Alexandra will be given a cultural program that will help connect Norway’s history with its present and future. The different cultural expressions told something of the history of the country that the princess and her generation will help shape.

Participating artists for the evening include actress Ina Svenningdal, artist Delara, Det Norske Jentekor (en: The Norwegian Girls Choir), artist Eva Weel Skram, author Lars Saabye Christensen, Akershus traveling theater and artist Hkeem . The school music corps Torshovkorpset provides the background music at the reception on the “Anne-Cath. Vestlys” square outside the library.

These royal guests will personally congratulate her

That sounds like an extraordinary festival with rarity value. The same probably applies to the planned gala dinner the following day, which her grandparents arranged for Ingrid Alexandra. Not only the family will toast with the jubilarian, but also royal friends from the European royal families. The 18-year-old will probably be particularly happy about a guest: Twelve years after their last official meeting at Princess Victoria’s wedding, 44, she finally sees Princess Amalia, 18, again in a festive setting. The heir to the Dutch throne accompanies her parents King Willem-Alexander, 55, and Queen Máxima, 51, on her first official appointment abroad as Princess of Orange.

In the meantime, two other long-awaited guests have also confirmed: Princess Victoria, 44, and her husband Prince Daniel, 48, will not miss the godchild celebration of the Swedish heir to the throne: “The crown princess couple will be at the gala dinner on the occasion of Princess Ingrid’s official day Alexandra,” said court spokeswoman Ulrika Näsholm to the magazine “Svensk Damtidning”. And godfather Prince Frederik, 54, and his wife Princess Mary, 50, are among the well-wishers, as confirmed by a new entry in the official calendar on the website of the Danish royal family.

However, some commitments are still pending: The Spanish junior royals, Princess Leonor, 16, and Princess Sofia, 15, are invited with their parents King Felipe, 54, and Queen Letizia, 49. However, their participation is not yet official. The Belgian heir to the throne Princess Elisabeth, 20, also received an invitation, wrote the Spanish news portal “Vanitatis”. Your participation is also still open.

Even if the royal guest list still seems to wobble a little and Princess Ingrid Alexandra had to be patient for a long time: she can finally celebrate her coming of age. The festivities in her honor hardly resemble those of her peers. However, they have one thing in common: they will remain unforgettable.
