LONDON (Reuters) – The Princess of Wales, Kate, made her first public appearance on Saturday since she was diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery five months ago.
Kate, dressed in a pale outfit, rode in a horse-drawn carriage with her three children before the Trooping the Color ceremony, an annual military parade near Buckingham Palace to officially celebrate the birthday of British monarch King Charles .
The crowd gathered along the streets greeted and cheered as the carriage passed.
Charles rode in another carriage with Queen Camilla, followed by Prince William, his heir and Kate’s husband, who rode with other members of the royal family.
Kate, 42, has been undergoing chemotherapy since the announcement of her cancer and, although the treatment is not complete, the improvement in her health has allowed this first public appearance since last December.
In a message broadcast on Friday, the princess clarified that she was not yet completely “out of the woods”, despite progress.
King Charles, 75, was also treated for cancer earlier this year and only returned to limited public duties in April.
